Registry evidence · publication counting
Four counts, one research corpus
Why 4, 13, 14, and 15 can all be accurate snapshots without describing the same publication total.
Status: Primary-source registry guide · Current public-record snapshot · No new canonical work · No new DOI version · No new empirical result · No citation-count claim · No employment or advisory claim
A count is inseparable from its rule
Public research systems index different record types and apply different matching rules. One may include only biomedical journal records, another may retain multiple DOI versions, and a curated library may merge revised titles and related manifestations into one research lineage. The numbers are therefore comparable only after the counted unit is named.
| Current count | System and rule | What the number supports | What it does not support |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | PubMed exact-author search | Four PubMed-indexed journal records currently match Emanuel Shirbint as author. | A complete count of preprints, conference contributions, software, or all scholarly outputs. |
| 13 | Canonical public research library | Thirteen research works after DOI-, title-, author-, version-, and lineage-aware deduplication. | Thirteen raw registry entries or thirteen peer-reviewed journal articles. |
| 14 | Europe PMC author query | Fourteen returned records across journal and preprint sources, including separately indexed version or title-lineage records. | Fourteen unique works, fourteen journal publications, or a citation total. |
| 15 | Crossref author-query results filtered to exact Emanuel/E. Shirbint family metadata | Fifteen DOI records in the current returned metadata, including two-version preprint lineages and conference DOIs. | A complete author bibliography: Crossref coverage and deposited author metadata differ by publisher and record. |
Where the extra records come from
The Reinforcement Learning Contour and Bounded Recursive Self-Improvement each have Version 1 and Version 2 DOI records. The canonical library preserves the earlier DOI as provenance but counts each title lineage once. The Human Digital Twins record also has an earlier public title/DOI lineage that is retained by registries while the curated library uses the revised public record. These are record-level differences, not evidence of additional peer-reviewed works.
Conference records require another distinction. The 2024 spine-segmentation conference DOI and the 2025 TotalSpineSeg conference DOI remain conference work. The TotalSpineSeg preprint, conference contribution, repository, and package distribution are connected as manifestations of a research lineage; software availability does not create a new empirical result or journal publication.
A safe way to report any publication number
- Name the source: PubMed, Europe PMC, Crossref, or the canonical library.
- Name the unit: registry records, DOI versions, conference contributions, or deduplicated works.
- Name the status: peer-reviewed journal article, conference work, preprint, conceptual research, or bounded empirical preprint.
- State the date: registry snapshots change as records propagate.
- Keep impact separate: a publication-record count is not a citation count, quality score, employment fact, or advisory credential.
Current reconciliation
On 15 September 2026, a targeted Crossref created-date query found zero new exact-name records created since 8 September. Europe PMC remained at 14 author-query records and PubMed remained at four exact-author records. The publisher pages for DOI 10.20944/preprints202608.0212.v2 and DOI 10.20944/preprints202608.0975.v2 still identify Version 2 as latest and not peer-reviewed. No new canonical work or version was promoted.
Claim boundaries across the public profile
Peer-reviewed work, conference work, preprints, conceptual research, the bounded empirical preprint, software, the locally evidenced EWCC production system, employment, and advisory work remain separate evidence classes. This guide reports no new scientific finding and makes no claim of production validation, clinical deployment, regulatory approval, present employment, advisory engagement, institutional representation, or citation impact.
